Rutger holds an MSc in petroleum engineering and a PhD in reservoir engineering, both from the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands.
Rutger Huijgens is a Dutch National and started his career in the energy industry in 1994 in a petroleum engineering consultancy in The Netherlands. He joined one of the major integrated energy companies in 1995 where, in the early phase of his career, he held a variety of engineering and commercial roles in upstream oil and gas assets in Vietnam, Venezuela and Alaska.
In addition, Rutger has held roles in the company’s global LNG business, led the operation and development of one of the largest onshore tight gas fields in the United States, and was technical director for the company’s Middle East & South Asia business unit.
In the second half of his career with the company, Rutger held senior roles in Egypt, where he was general manager & managing director (CEO) of the Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company, in Brussels as director of European government affairs, and in the UK as senior director offshore wind.
